Mako

Couldn’t have been a more pleasant experience for our first Michelin star restaurant. Experienced the omakase menu for a birthday and we had such a great time. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier and we had some of the most amazing pieces of fish we’ve ever had. We’d absolutely recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I decided to dine at Mako for our anniversary and it safe to say that we left the restaurant full, happy, and blown away by the quality of ingredients, attention to detail, and service. Walking in from the busy streets of chicago into a very intimate and welcoming setting was indicative of the amazing night ahead of us. As the night progressed, course after course the tasting kept getting better. Every member of the service team was well educated, well spoken, and genuinely kind. It takes a special passion for your profession to be able to provide this level of service. Also watching the sushi chefs methodically craft each course was a sight to see. Many years of dedication to their work was very clear. Thank you to everyone at Mako for an amazing night. We will be back!

There were a few places I had been looking forward to visiting in Chicago, and today I finally made it to one of them—Mako. It was actually our very first stop after arriving in Chicago, and it did not disappoint. Watching Chef Park prepare each piece of sushi was an experience in itself. His hands moved with incredible speed and precision, but what impressed me most was the way his entire body seemed to move with the rhythm of his craft—almost like a dance. Each piece of sushi felt like a small work of art coming to life right in front of us. The entire experience was absolutely fantastic, and I highly recommend Mako to anyone visiting Chicago. Even more exciting, Chef Park is preparing to open a restaurant in New York soon. I’m already looking forward to it!

We first went to Mako about 5 years ago and we loved it and over the years have compared other omakase places in Chicago to it and we always said that they pretty much all fall short of Mako, so decided to go again to confirm if we still felt that way. We do! The food is just perfect. The mackerel and trout were the standouts this time, granted the toro and salmon were also fantastic. The pace and amount of food in my mind is perfectly fine and people’s comments about the drink pairing matching well with the food are spot on. I had two wines here that I will buy and pair whenever we have seafood at home as they were fantastic (the Reisling from Austria was my favorite). What’s also great about the paring is that they will let you split one between two people meaning you don’t have to share a glass. Lastly, the service was top notch. I usually don’t put as much weight into service but our server was outstanding. Very attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout the whole meal. I know this place is pricy but I 100% think it’s worth it and we will be going again for a third time.
