How do I choose a wedding or event venue?
Ask whether the space fits your guest list and your plans, how food and drink are handled, and what the contract commits you to. The ratings above say how reviewers felt about a visit or an event. They do not say which venue suits a wedding, a corporate dinner or a family celebration. Three things to check before you book:
The space and your guest list
Ask how many guests the venue holds seated and standing, whether a ceremony and a reception can take place in the same building, and whether there is an indoor option if an outdoor plan meets bad weather. Ask about parking and accessibility for older guests and anyone using a wheelchair.
Food, drink and outside vendors
Ask whether the venue provides its own catering and bar service or allows outside caterers, and whether a tasting is offered before you commit. If you plan to bring a photographer, a band or a florist, ask whether the venue keeps a list of vendors you must choose from.
The contract
Read the contract before you sign. Ask what the deposit holds, when the remaining payments fall due, what happens if you change the date or cancel, what the price includes, such as tables, staff, setup and cleanup, and when the event has to end.
