We recently celebrated a friend's 80th birthday at The Barn Steakhouse in Evanston, and it turned out to be a truly memorable evening, thanks largely to the exceptional service. Michael (I believe he was the manager) went far above and beyond to make our friend feel special. He surprised our table with a complimentary tasting of Wagyu beef as an appetizer, and when we couldn't decide on dessert, he brought out an incredible platter with five different desserts for everyone to share, along with glasses of Prosecco. It wasn't just a nice gesture—it was genuine hospitality that made our friend's milestone birthday one to remember. The food was outstanding as well. The bone-in ribeyes were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious, and the filet mignon was equally impressive. The portions were generous, which helped justify the higher price point. There are plenty of places to get a great steak, but it's rare to find service that leaves such a lasting impression. Michael's kindness and attention to detail made the evening unforgettable. We will definitely be back.

The Barn sets the bar for what a great restaurant should be. The service is exceptional. Michael, the GM, is a delightful gentleman and obviously cares very much about his guests and their overall experience. Turk, the bartender, was spot on with drink and food recommendations. Ambiance is on point and so is the lobster roll. Steak is always cooked to perfection. Don’t be shy - finish it with their homemade carrot cake. You won’t regret it.
Ok this place exemplifies a hidden gem as it’s literally hidden in an alley and you walk into a total gem. Can’t beleive it was a barn! So romantic!over all the drinks but try their Black Manhattan. Oh and that crab spaghetti’s hubby loved the ribeye. Sticky toffee pudding for the win! Best date night!
Once you step inside of this hidden gem, you’re seeing 20 foot ceilings, an enormous, beautiful chandelier with raw natural brick all around. The wine selection on the wall is extensive as well as the whiskey offerings. With that being said, I must recommend The Smoking Cap - rye or bourbon, cardamom, clove, fig, black walnut bitters and the Famously Naked - mezcal, Aperol and lemon I didn’t personally have the steak offerings, but when I saw them coming out, they looked so good and there were so many people ordering them. However, the route that I went had to be equally as good because everything I had from the lobster rolls, to the caviar sandwich to the lobster, spaghetti and miso, salmon or simply delightful. This is truly a hidden gem in the Evanston area and a must visit if you love a good steakhouse with all the vibes.
The Barn is really beautiful inside. The entire staff was very helpful and friendly. Their version of an old fashioned was the right amount of sweet/stiff and I had the bartender make me a mocktail of her choice which was also great - lime and cucumber. The Burrata appetizer is a must try, I was so excited about it, didn’t get a picture. We did the ribeye medium and it melts in your mouth. The potatoes with it are so flavorful. The lobster risotto was pretty good, but the texture of the risotto was a bit crunchier than I like and a little bland. The carrot cake was amazing paired with a chai latte
Small quaint steakhouse inside a rustic "barnish" setting. Very nice ambiance. Delicious food. Great desserts. The dry aged ribeye was outstanding, cooked to perfection (rare for me). Dry aged NY strip with tarragon horseradish topper was also very good. All steaks come with a potato, which is nice for a steakhouse of this caliber, as most serve their steaks a la carte. The chocolate cake and creme brulee were also delicious. The creme brulee was very vanilla forward, where you could see the ground up vanilla beans in the custard, making in very tasty. Made a reservation on Opentable for our anniversary, and checked the anniversary box under special occasions. The waitress finished our meal with a glass of wine each on the house for the occasion, so its a nice touch they acknowledged the anniversary made on Opentable as I feel many restaurants glance over that box. Will definitely be back!
