So if you come across this and say "The Captain's Room? What's that?" You wouldn't be the only one. This is truly a hidden Villa Park gem. But make no mistake about it, John Paul and his team are fantastic! Me and my wife were looking for a place to hold a wedding for close friends and family. We had about four different places that we looked before before coming across The Captain's Room. The reviews are excellent and I was curious to see what it was about. We met John Paul and he gave us a bit of history (it was once an old bank, you can see the inscription about the entrance) and he turned the space in his now locally famous event venue. John Paul is a super cool guy that is very willing to work with you on how you want your event to be. He is also super funny and will make each visit a comfortable one, trust me. Don't be fooled though, he takes his craft very seriously and will do his best to make sure your event is both fun and very memorable. His team, amazing. Attentive, friendly, warm and accommodating are just some of the words to describe them. Need a driver? He can arrange that. Need a photographer? He knows them too. Want a guy to come in and play tunes? He's got you covered. His team is very family oriented and the things they put together are incredible. The food, John Paul has an extensive menu that is fully customizable and they all tasted great! And there will be no shortage of food, he will make sure you are well fed. If you have a seafood allergy (like myself), he is willing to remove all seafood options, for a few wisecracks, haha. I am very glad that I came across his page online, and you will be a satisfied customer as well from the initial meet and planning, to the end of the event. If you are having an event for a modest crowd (40 people or so), choose this place.

Its website says the building was built in 1924 as the State Bank of Villa Park and restored as an Art Deco events space with a wine cellar vault and a commercial chef's kitchen. I recently attended an engagement party at The Captain's Room, and it was the perfect setting for an intimate celebration with family and friends! Chef John and the entire staff were absolutely amazing. They were so welcoming, interacted with the guests, and truly made everyone feel right at home. The atmosphere was cozy, fun, and inviting, and the food and drinks were outstanding! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to host a special event or private party. Such a wonderful experience!
The Captain’s Room Team is unparalleled- from the first phone call with John to talk about the menu, to spending an hour doing an on-site visit with us, TCR was the best venue for my brother and his fiancée’s engagement celebration. John and the team thought through every single detail and took incredible care of our family members. He showed the kids his cooking techniques as they sat at the chef’s table, emceed the event to make folks laugh, and the music entertainment and atmosphere made for a special night for all. The fact that this is a family business means TCR pours their all into the people they serve!
This space is gorgeous and Chef John Paul and his team were incredible. I took photos here for my clients engagement party, and Chef was very welcoming and went out of his way to accommodate my food allergies.
Partnership leading up to a quick turn event was top notch. Ambiance, live music, and food…oh my gosh the food was Michelin quality. John was a wonderful partner and made magic happen. Grateful to him and the staff for every detail.
Chef JP hosted us for an 25 person corporate get together that was AMAZING! He and his “crew” were absolutely phenomenal, as was the food and entertainment. I not only highly recommend The Captains Room - I will be back!
